AC Cooling System Common Problems

August 29, 2019 by Carter Leave a Comment

During the summer, it is a necessity to have air conditioning in your car. You could roll down the windows, but it will not provide the same refreshing sensation. The worst thing that could happen is that your car’s AC breaks down in the middle of the summer season. A car AC not working is a major issue, and you should know of a reliable auto parts store near you that can lend a helping hand if it occurs to you. These are the most common issues to look out for.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your car’s air conditioner relies on coolant to lower the air’s temperature. This coolant flows through various wires, and it is possible for one of those wires to crack. Your car will quickly lose coolant, and all you will feel is warm air. You should take your vehicle to an experienced AC technician who can repair the crack posthaste.

Ice Formation

Sometimes, your car’s AC can become too cold. When your car blows cold air at first and then it changes to warm air unexpectedly, it is likely a result of ice forming in the system and blocking the tubes. You will need to evacuate the system with a vacuum pump. Fortunately, you do not have to purchase one outright if you are currently asking yourself, “Where is an AC vacuum pump near me?” An auto parts store in your city should be able to loan you one for the 30 minutes it will take to evacuate the system.

Dirty Filter

Your AC may also not work properly when there is a dirty or clogged air filter. You will need to replace your filter once every 15,000 to 25,000 miles. You should check your manufacturer’s recommendations to see how often you should change it for your specific car. You may want to invest in a reusable filter so that you do not have to purchase new ones all the time.

Faulty Compressor

The compressor in your car’s AC system is responsible for applying energy to the coolant and propelling it through the coils. This carries out the AC’s heat exchange. When the compressor breaks down, the AC will only blow warm air. This component most often breaks due to excessive lack of use. You should continue running your AC, even if it is cold outside, so that the compressor still remains viable.

Broken or Blocked Condenser

The condenser’s job is to cool down any hot refrigerant after it has gone through compression. In most vehicles, the condenser is located toward the front, so it should be easy for you to see whether anything is blocking it. It is also possible it broke down entirely. You may find visible punctures along the condenser, and in this instance, the only way to fix it is through a replacement.

From tools to replacement components, you can find everything to keep your car cool on the inside at your local auto parts shop. Everything can be delivered directly to you, so you do not have to go through summer sweating excessively.
