Seeking to improve the performance of information plates, signs and door numbers, manufacturers pay special attention to materials. The question is why do some manufacturers prefer stainless steel, while others work exclusively with aluminum or brass? Let’s figure it out.
To manufacture plates and door numbering signs the following materials are used:
- wood;
- acrylic glass;
- stainless steel;
- aluminum;
- copper;
- brass;
- polyvinyl chloride;
- composite plastic.
The list of materials can be roughly divided into 3 categories: wood, synthetic raw materials and metal.
Take wood, for example. Note that it is used for signs and numbers for doors, which will be inside the premises. To produce the items, conifers are used: pine, spruce, larch, cedar and fir. These varieties are very common, malleable in work and have excellent performance properties. Of course, in the market for wooden door number signs and plates, you can also find products made of valuable wood species: walnut, ash, alder, oak, maple, cherry, pear, beech, etc. But usually finished products are sold at a very high price due to the costliness of wood and the complexity of handling it. It should be noted that in terms of its strength properties, as well as in appearance, a plate or front door number made of pine is as good as a decoration made of walnut.
For plates, signs and door sign numbers, metal is used, in particular stainless steel. It is heavier than aluminum, so it copes well with applied shock, high pressure and abrasion. For tasks where low metal weight, strength and reliability are required, stainless steel is better than aluminum. If we compare stainless steel with brass, then here it also comes out victorious. That’s true, both metals are characterized by increased resistance to corrosion and mechanical damage, but brass is much more expensive just like copper. The latter type of metal has increased ductility, so using copper for door plate numbers is not the best idea.
And finally, synthetic raw materials: acrylic glass, composite and PVC plastic. Those manufacturers who rely on acrylic to manufacture door numbers and letters, plates and pointers have made the right decision. This material is more durable than plastic. Also, unlike composite and PVC plastic, acrylic glass retains its original appearance for many years of operation: scratches and chips are not so visible on it.
Final thoughts
If you are going to buy modern door number signs, we recommend paying attention to items made of stainless steel, wood and acrylic glass, ideally from a combination of these materials. These are the products that the BSign interior decoration manufactory makes and sells. And it is always happy to offer its services.
