6 essential life safety technologies you must have in your business

March 11, 2022 by Carter Leave a Comment

Technology has become a part of our everyday lives and when it comes to businesses there is increasingly little difference. It’s important to consider what kinds of technology are necessary in order for your business to maintain safety.

  • Essential training and any necessary PPE

In general terms, PPE equipment is a form of technology that has been essential to every business during the Covid-19 pandemic. With restrictions calming down however, it’s crucial to remember that PPE is still essential for some businesses.

In line with that, basic training is required for the majority of roles and should not be considered any less important than fancy computer technologies in keeping people safe.

  • CCTV security

CCTV systems allow businesses to monitor spaces in real time, providing a sense of security for all who work there, and also act as a deterrent for criminal behaviour. Security cameras are also effective at identifying criminals and victims in work places and can record evidence that may be vital for police investigations.

A recent study in Leicestershire shows that overall crime has decreased by 13% in places with CCTV when compared with those places without it. If this doesn’t convince you to install some CCTV security, I don’t know what will!

  • Induction loop system

Since the disability discrimination act has been implemented, induction loop systems have become a vital part of communication systems and key in ensuring that people with disabilities get equal opportunities within the workplace. The induction loop system Durham outlines the different types of loops available and the benefits of each. Without technologies such as these, safety for those who are hard of hearing is severely compromised.

  • Access control

Access control in terms of access to the building through intercoms and passwords and access control in terms of entry to sensitive data are both key technologies that should feature as part of all businesses’ security measures.

The reason access control is so important is because it minimises the risk of unauthorised access to important and private information and data, preventing a security breach. Similarly, limiting access to the building ensures physical employee safety as well as data security.

  • Effective intruder alarm systems

Linking to the previous point, having effective intruder alarm systems helps to protect data and, more specifically, anyone on the businesses’ premises. In a similar way to CCTV security, intruder alarms alert employees in real time to any potential breaches in security, allowing everyone to get themselves to a safe place. This idea might be slightly more difficult to put into place depending on the business, but ideally every business would have intruder alarm systems for when the place is vacant or quieter at night, for example.

  • Fire and carbon monoxide alarms

The ability to contact an emergency service or call for assistance at any time is crucial in the majority of businesses. Without working alarms your entire staff and business is at risk. You can purchase alarms which alert to both smoke and carbon monoxide instead of buying separate ones, but however you choose to do it, these items are non-negotiable when it comes to protecting lives.
