How to Avoid Burnout When Balancing Work & Study?

October 16, 2020 by Carter Leave a Comment

Additional study can be a great way to strengthen your resume and climb the corporate ladder. Still, those that take on further study while working can sometimes find it incredibly difficult to juggle work and study as well as maintain an enjoyable lifestyle. This can lead to burnout, which needs to be avoided at all costs as it will negatively affect your work and study as well as affect your physical and mental wellbeing. Obviously, you will want to do all that you can to avoid suffering from burnout and exhaustion so here are a few tips which should help you to do this while studying and working at the same time.

Discuss Possibilities with Your Boss

It is always a good idea to talk with your boss about your studies, especially if it is of benefit to the business. In this case, they may allow you some time off, flexible working or even allow you to work remotely while you complete the studies which can be of great help.

Take Online Qualifications

Perhaps the best way to avoid burnout when studying and working is to take an online qualification, such as the Merrimack MSM degree online for those looking to move into a management role. These courses can be completed entirely online with a flexible program, allowing you to fit it into your own schedule and to go at your own pace. This can make it much easier to balance work and study and help you to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Make Time for Work & Study Without Multitasking

It would be best if you had exact times for work and study, and these should never overlap where you are multitasking. As an example, you may work from 9-5 and then take a break for a few hours before studying after dinner between 7:30 and 8:30. This will help to separate the two in your mind and stop you from multitasking which can be mentally draining and does not allow you to give your full focus to either.

Look After Your Wellbeing

It will always be challenging to take on studying while working even with an online qualification, but you must make sure that your wellbeing is a priority so that you can avoid burnout. This will involve leading a healthy lifestyle, getting enough sleep, taking regular breaks and seeing friends. Burnout occurs when you neglect your wellbeing, so you need to look out for signs of this too, including exhaustion, mood swings and mistakes in your work.

Set Goals & Reward Yourself

It can feel overwhelming when you are balancing work and study, and this can lead to a lack of motivation. This is why you need to set yourself regular and achievable goals and then to reward yourself when you achieve these, such as going out for dinner or buying new clothes.

Earning qualifications can help you to get ahead in your career, but it can be hugely challenging to balance work and study without suffering from burnout, so hopefully, these tips will be of use.
