5 myths about home security – debunked!

March 21, 2022 by Carter Leave a Comment

There are several misunderstandings among individuals regarding home security systems. Because of this, here’s our list of 5 typical home security myths that we have debunked.

  • Myth – Home Security is expensive

Truth – Home security is far from too expensive if you choose the right security provider. Although home security solutions do have some upfront and maintenance fees, these are typically one-off costs that are well worth the added security and value that they provide your home.

Generally, a home security system can set you back anywhere between £30 to £1600, and the average security package is valued at around £450. However, most house owners can purchase home security by paying a monthly fee of less than £180! You can find affordable security solutions in your area by Google search terms like cctv installers durham, if you lived in the North East for example.

You don’t have to go with a high-tech smart security system if you happen to be on a tight budget – a video doorbell or standard burglar alarm could work for you in providing security.

  • Myth – Burglars break in via discrete areas

Truth – While windows and the back door are usual locations for burglars to break into your home, another usual area of the home where burglars can tend to enter for home thefts is through your front door. So while it is essential to secure discreet areas like the back of your home, certainly don’t overlook the front door just because it seems obvious that burglars won’t try to break in this way.

According to police reports, burglary crimes in the UK in recent years have consisted of burglars using three 3 primary entrance areas: rear windows being the most common, followed closely by the front door, and surprisingly back doors being just after front doors. This shows that in many areas, burglars actually tend to break in through the front door.

  • Myth – Home security won’t help you identify a burglar

Truth – Although many people believe security systems are just installed to act as a deterrent for crime and burglars, they are simply more than just a deterrent and can catch burglars if they break into your home or even before they do so.

The identity and faces of burglars, license plates, and other specific details can all be captured by modern security systems. Furthermore, some home security monitoring systems include motion detection. When movement is detected, they alert you so that you can contact the police to apprehend the intruder.

  • Myth – You don’t need home security if you have insurance

Truth – While insurance covers all property theft and damage caused by a burglary, it will not shield you from the feeling of loss and invasion that comes with a burglary. Even if your house does not get burgled, having an unwanted intruder in your home is a violation of your rights and can put you on edge knowing they could come back.

Insurance won’t not replace any sentimental belongings that have been stolen or destroyed, as well as data on devices.

  • Myth – Home security isn’t essential for low-crime areas

Truth – Even in secure settings, break-ins can occur. While crime rates may be low in some areas of the UK, no location has a 0% rate of burglaries and break-ins. Because most homeowners do not invest in home protection, criminals target secure locations.
