How to Know When You Need HVAC Emergency Repair

January 26, 2022 by Carter Leave a Comment

The air conditioning system is one of the most expensive appliances to maintain and operate in your home. It is a necessity, especially during the scorching summer days.

Figuring out when it needs to be repaired or maintained can help you save on costs and improve efficiency.

You don’t want to be overrun by sudden breakdowns as this can lead to poor performance, which may cause a lot of discomfort in your home. It can be a pain to repair, but it’s better to spend money on repairs than replacements or HVAC emergency repairs any day. For further resources, click “visit website.”

Is HVAC service really necessary?

Yes. During the summer months, your air conditioner is on nearly 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And with each turn of the thermostat, it works harder and harder to keep your house cool. Over time, all of that wear and tear mounts up, requiring further repairs. That’s why it is important to have regular maintenance done by a licensed technician or someone who knows what they’re looking at when they come into your home and spot problems before they become major issues that cost.

How do I know if my HVAC needs servicing or replacing?

Sometimes, it’s obvious that you need HVAC emergency repair, but there are other times when the signs are harder to spot. So here are a few clues that mean you need to call for repairs:

Unusual Noises

As the AC goes about its cooling duties, it runs smoothly and silently. However, if unusual sounds are coming, something is not right. Normally, your unit shouldn’t make a lot of rattling, grinding, or buzzing. If this is happening, there’s a good chance that things are starting to break inside the unit, and you’re going to have to get a professional involved before it gets worse. The first thing you should do is turn off the unit and call a professional for assistance. The most common cause of noises coming from an AC unit is loose parts, which need to be tightened or replaced.

Vents are Blowing the Wrong Air Temperature

It may seem obvious, but if there is warm air blowing through your vents when it should be blowing cool air, then something must be wrong with your AC unit. This could happen due to any number of issues, from a power outage to a failed compressor motor. If you have noticed that the temperature in your home has been increasing steadily over several days without any relief from the heat, then there is something wrong with your HVAC unit.

Bad Smell

When your AC smells bad, it could be because of mold growing in the air ducts. If you’ve had a flood or leak in your home, your mold problem could be much worse than you realize. Mold will not only make your home smell bad but can also grow into toxic spores that can make you sick. A burning smell from your A/C could also indicate a gas leak or some other serious problem that requires an HVAC emergency repair to fix. Its best not to take any chances when a bad smell comes from your system — have it looked at as soon as possible.

Inadequate Airflow

Another clue that your air conditioner needs to be serviced is if the airflow from the vents has slowed. A lack of airflow might indicate an obstruction in the air ducts. Experts recommend a regular air duct maintenance plan to keep dust and debris accumulation limited.

Ice on the HVAC System

Unfortunately, visible ice collecting on your air conditioning equipment (including the exterior compressor unit) might indicate a problem with the evaporator coils. When you have a blocked filter or a leak, this can happen. Ice buildup can quickly destroy the remainder of the machine; thus, it must be fixed as soon as possible.

High Utility Bills

If you have noticed a significant increase in your monthly bill from the utility company, this could be a sign that there is something wrong with your AC unit.

Leaks

To keep your home cool, your air conditioner consumes refrigerant, which can produce condensation. However, none of these substances should buildup or seep into your house.

A puddle of water or a leak near your air conditioner signifies that your cooling system isn’t functioning properly. Please do not hesitate to contact air conditioning repair experts as leaks may swiftly wreak havoc on your house and potentially cause significant structural problems.

If you observe any of these signs, call an HVAC company to schedule an appointment. There might not be anything wrong with your system right now, but if there is, the longer you wait to get it fixed, the worse the problem will become.

What happens when your HVAC is serviced?

A professional service representative will perform routine maintenance on your HVAC system, which will include cleaning all of the parts of your HVAC system with specialized equipment. This includes the filter, coils, and blower wheel, if applicable. A dirty filter can decrease airflow and reduce the effectiveness of your AC or furnace so that a repair contractor will replace your dirty filter with a new one.

Also, if a duct is partially blocked, they will remove the blockage and then fix the duct to prevent it from getting blocked again. They may also drain line if needed. Air circulates properly and efficiently throughout your home when your AC unit is clean. If any other parts are damaged, loose, or leaking, they are replaced or repaired using new parts. If needed, electrical components are checked to ensure that they’re operating correctly and safely within the system’s limits.

The technician also takes note of anything that might be causing undue strain on your HVAC systems, like large appliances running in other rooms or poor insulation in certain areas of your house that contribute to higher energy costs. Make sure to take the necessary steps to prevent emergency HVAC repair.
