Currently, blinds are the most popular window treatment option available.
It’s certainly easy to see why. Not only do blinds work well at keeping the sunlight out of the interior of a house, they can really add to the look of a home as well.
There are also many different types of window blinds, and not all of them are necessarily equal. This doesn’t mean that certain blinds are ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than others from an overall standpoint, but it does mean that one option may be better or worse than another for your house or room specifically.
Here are five different types of window blinds that you can choose for your house, presented in alphabetical order:
1 – Micro Blinds
The smallest type of window blinds available are micro blinds. These blinds are even smaller than mini blinds. Whereas mini blinds have slats that are usually around a half an inch thick, the slats of micro blinds will be around half an inch thick instead.
2 – Mini Blinds
Mini blinds are essentially smaller versions of Venetian blinds, which we’ll get to in a little bit. Basically, mini blinds just have a smaller width in the slats than the Venetian blinds, typically being around an inch thick. As with Venetian blinds, mini blinds have horizontal slats, and when raised the bottom slat is raised into the one right above it.
3 – Panel Blinds
Panel blinds are generally used for large windows and doors on patios. They feature slats that move along a track at the top of the wall. You can then run the blinds along the track to allow the maximum amount of light to enter. The primary difference between panel blinds and vertical blinds, which we will talk about in a bit, is that panel blinds are designed for the largest sizes of windows.
4 – Venetian Blinds
By far the most popular type of window blinds are Venetian blinds. Venetian blinds are noted for their horizontal slats that attach with string. Whenever the blinds are raised, the slat is pressed into the higher slat, allowing the blinds to completely open and reveal the whole window. Alternatively, you can also tilt the blinds open or shut to regulate the sunlight.
5 – Vertical Blinds
The last type of window blinds that we will talk about are Vertical blinds. Vertical blinds simply have slats that run along a track, similar to panel blinds. However, vertical blinds can also either open from one side to the other, or by parting them apart in the center. Vertical blinds can be used for smaller sized windows, but they are usually used for patio doors and windows that rise from the ceiling to the floor.
