Summer is quickly approaching, which means it’s almost time to hit the pool and slather on SPF before slipping into your favorite swimsuit. Take some time now and plan ahead for the best summer of your life!
Color-code your planner.
Or don’t. But, either way, you’ll thank yourself later if you plan out some of the activities you want to get through this summer. Where you can, mark your calendar with exact dates. Not sure of just when you’ll want to eat out or sit by the fire pit? Make up a list of all the to-dos you want to tackle between now and September. Include the fun things as well as the household tasks you want to take care of while the weather is nice. Keep track now so you don’t realize you forgot something when fall comes. Be sure to add a few self-care items to your to-do list, too—no one wants to deal with burnout on top of sunburn. Try stargazing on a clear night or testing out a new face mask for some summer-friendly self-care ideas.
Prepare your outdoor areas.
Take a bit of time to look around any outdoor areas you might have—after all, heading outside is one of the highlights of summertime! Clean your grill of any dirt accumulated through winter and make sure it’s got enough fuel for any spontaneous barbecuing. Sweep the patio and bring out any furniture you’d packed away the past few months. Open up your pool for the season. This is a great time to check (or install, if you haven’t already) any safety measures like pool fences. This step is all the more important if you have pets or small children who could fall in the water or otherwise hurt themselves if safety measures aren’t in place, whether it’s pool safety or keeping the matches for your tiki torch out of reach. Be sure to go over safety rules with your loved ones for an injury-free summer.
Stock up on supplies.
Picture it: the whole family is ready to jump in the pool on a lazy Sunday afternoon when you realized you’re out of sunblock. The last thing you want to do is run to the store, but you don’t want to run the risk of sunburn or other scary effects of sun damage. Save yourself that struggle by stocking up early. Grab some summer essentials like sunglasses, your favorite foods to grill, and, of course, a bottle or two of your go-to SPF, and be sure to replenish as needed. Keep an eye out for sales throughout the summer to find the best deals possible. August already? Stock up on non-perishables to get ready for next year early by hitting the end-of-the-season sales rack.
Make sure your wardrobe is ready.
Of course, you want to look good this summer, but there’s also some science behind what clothes are best in the summer months. Pack up your parkas and UGG boots and get out your flip flops and favorite off shoulder blouse. Need some inspiration? Put on some classic summer movies for all the outfit ideas you could ever need. Consider this your permission to do a bit of online shopping: hit “add to cart” on warm-weather wardrobe staples like jean shorts and vintage tees to fill out your closet. Add a baseball cap or floppy beach hat to top off your look and get ready to soak up the sun.
With a bit of planning, you’ll be in for your best summer yet. Check your swimming pool’s safety measures, pick up some new sleeveless tops, and write out your summer bucket list—then get started!
