If you’re planning to go to Sicily this year you may want to make sure you have a holiday to remember. Sicily is a beautiful part of the world that is steeped in history and full to the brim of amazing scenery and incredible beaches.
How can you make sure that your holiday is a special one? Take a look at the tips below and you’re more likely to have a great time away:
Eating Locally
When it comes to eating locally you’ll find that the dishes served in Sicily come with many Mediterranean flavours. However, some of the dishes also come with a bit of a twist and this is all thanks to the local heritage. For example, did you know that there is an Arab population on the island? You’ll find that they have inspired some local dishes making them even better than you imagined.
When you eat locally you will find that many of the ingredients are fresh and perhaps some of the tastiest you’ve ever tries. This is because Sicily has very fertile soil and sunshine throughout the year. This gives extra flavour to all of those must-try dishes.
Staying Healthy
It can get rather hot in Sicily, especially during the summer. If you do happen to be out and about in Sicily during the months of July and August in particular, make sure you have water with you. This is because you’ll be at risk of dehydration.
Many locals do nothing or at least very little between the hours of 12 and 4pm. This is when the sun is at its hottest. You may also want to consider wearing a sun hat and sunglasses at all times. While you may want to work on your tan it’s better to protect your skin and eyes from the sun.
Staying Somewhere Beautiful
There’s no doubt about it, you will have the chance to stay somewhere very beautiful. For example, Scent of Sicily’s villas with pool with their unique style and gorgeous views can add something special to your time away. Try to find a villa that gives you plenty of room to live in while you’re in Sicily, particularly if you’re there with friends and family. You will all want to have time to yourself so make sure it’s big enough so you’re not bumping into each other.
Driving Around Sicily
Driving in Sicily is not for the faint of heart and neither is walking around the streets. When it comes to crossing the road in Sicily you will have to be extra careful. This is especially the case when it comes to zebra crossings. Vehicles that approach a zebra crossing are required by law to stop when the see someone about to cross or already walking across. However, they don’t always stop so you will have to be careful.
When it comes to driving around Sicily make sure you obey the rules of the road so you don’t get pulled over.
Last but not least, please make sure that you always have some identification with you. It’s compulsory for you to carry ID when you’re in Italy. A photocopy of your ID is usually sufficient unless you’re driving. If you get pulled over you’ll need to have your passport with you.
Being sensible about the sun and what you wear can help you have a holiday to remember for all the right reasons. Taking care when you’re walking or driving can also help. Take note of all these tips and you’re likely to have a great time away.
